The state’s largest labor organization has announced new staff changes. Here is the press release from the MN AFL-CIO:
Brad Lehto has been promoted from Legislative Director to Chief of Staff and Jennifer Schaubach has been promoted to Legislative Director. In related action, the federation hired Candace Lund to direct its mobilizing and organizing programs.
Lund, a Minneapolis resident, brings a strong background to her job of supporting statewide initiatives strengthening the labor movement. She was president of AFSCME Local 3937, a 1,000 member statewide local representing technical staff at the University of Minnesota. She served on the AFSCME Council 5 Executive Board, the policy-setting body for the union’s 40,000 members and earned her Masters Degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership at the University of Minnesota at Duluth in 2006.
Lehto, a Roseville resident, served as the Minnesota AFL-CIO’s Legislative Director and lead lobbyist for seven years. Before coming to the Minnesota AFL-CIO, Lehto spent 14 years working for the Minnesota House of Representatives, ten of those years as committee staff person for the House Labor-Management Relations Committee. In the mid-1980s, Lehto managed the precinct caucus, convention, endorsement and sample ballot process for the DFL Party as Party Services Director. He is a graduate of Augsburg College in Minneapolis.
Schaubach, a Burnsville resident, has served as the Minnesota AFL-CIO Legislative Support Specialist since 2003. In that post, Schaubach played a key role in preparing the Minnesota AFL-CIO voting record, which documents legislators’ support for labor issues. Schaubach also worked intensively with Minnesota’s successful 2006 campaign to elect new legislators who support labor’s goals: good jobs, good schools, health care for all Minnesotans, and safe roads. Schaubach attended Augsburg and Gustavus Adolphus Colleges.
I have had the opportunity to work with Brad Lehto and Jennifer Schaubach in the past and know they are committed to advancing the causes of the working class of Minnesota. Candance Lund has impressive credentials and should make a welcome addition to the team.
Peace and solidarity
