Comments from my corner of the Corner House in the southwest corner of Minnesota. My thoughts about the events of the day, politics, social issues, cats, dogs, kids and whatever comes to mind.
Is she a serious contender? Jeff Fecke over at Blog Of The Moderate Left offers his list of potential VP candidates in his post: A Pitcher Of Warm Piss, GOP Style.
Rice has been known to have questions planted … that’s what she’s doing … looking to get attention. Did you see Clinton’s tax returns ? How much money will she make on the speaking tour and book tours? OK, seriously — She’s the Peter Principle in action. From the Worst NSA to Worst Sec. of State to Worst VP candidate. Add to that her lack of domestic and legislative experience, she would brings nothing to be VP.
Pawlenty would be the choice only if McCain does not really think he will win. Will Minnesota vote for Governor Molnau ? Minnesota is Blue. Pawlenty has no military or foreign experience … exactly what we neeed. Timmy looks good on TV (except after the bridge collaspe when he was visibly shook) the nation knows nothing about him except what the talking heads say. Look for a Pawlenty-Petraus ticket in 2012.
Crist is possible, but I like Rick Perry of Texas better. With the influx of Katrina voters, Texas will be more in play than many others think. Perry is in his second term as Governor and has a military background and is a Democrat-turned Republican.
From true resume, Portman should at top the list … but he’s from southern Ohio (Taft-true and blue Republican territory.) Considering the foreclosures in Ohio, the only chance McCain has to win Ohio is if he picks Ohio State’s football coach Jim Tressel.
I take it that Congresswoman Bachmann’s comments about McCain took her off the list … too bad … the rest of the country should get to see her.
So, let’s talk about the real next VP … does Tom Dashele excite you? If he hadn’t gotten edged out by the Republican Money Machine, he would be a great choice … otherwise Evan Byah might bring Indiana to the Dems side.

Daschle would certainly be one who could put his legislative experience to good use in D.C.
